CITIZENS FIRE ACADEMY

The Grand Chute Fire Department will be introducing its Citizens Fire Academy this fall. It is a learning program for people who want to know about our department and how it operates on a day-to-day basis.

This program will allow participants to experience what it is like to be a firefighter through classroom training on fire behavior, emergency medical treatment, victim search and rescue, and fire attack. There will also be hands-on exercises using fire extinguishers, search and rescue equipment, and the "Jaws of Life". We also encourage participants to spend a shift at the firehouse riding along on a truck.

The Academy is open to men and women who are at least 18 years old and in good physical shape. Initial plans are to start in early September and go for eight consecutive weeks, with classes in the evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Academy is limited to the first twelve applicants who successfully pass a background investigation. Participation in all classes is expected. This program is not an avenue for seeking employment with the department, but to give residents an opportunity to experience what it is like to be a firefighter for a few weeks.
