What are the rules and regulations for a detached accessory building?

No detached accessory building shall occupy any portion of the front yard or more than thirty (30) percent of the rear yard.  It cannot be located within three (3) feet of the side or rear lot line and no closer than ten (10) feet to the principal building. 

 

What are the rules and regulations for a detached garage?

A detached garage shall not exceed eight hundred sixty-four (864) square feet or 36' X 24'.

How do I find out the history of a particular building, such as when it was built or the builder?

You can find out this information by calling our office and giving us the address of the property. Please allow us twenty-four (24) hours to retrieve this information.

 

How many dogs are allowed at a residence?

Up to three (3) dogs are allowed at a residence. More than this number is considered a kennel. Dog kennels are not allowed in Residential Districts.

Building Inspection


How close can I put a driveway to the lot line?

A driveway can be placed next to the lot line as long as it does not affect the drainage between the lots and the water or snow shed does not go onto the neighbor's property.  When widening a driveway it annot extend into the right-or-way without a permit from the Public Works Department.

 

Is a permit required for a swimming pool?

Yes, a building permit is required at a cost of $25 if the pool has more than two (2) feet of water.

 

Is a fence required around my swimming pool?

Yes, but a building permit is not required for this. The fence must be secured at least forty-four (44) inches above the grade.
A fence shall be constructed to prevent passage of a four (4) inch sphere between or under fencing materials.
Gates shall include self-closing and self-latching devices that are placed on the inside of the gate at least thirty (30) inches above ground level.

 

Where on my property can I place a swimming pool?

An attached swimming pool must be six (6) feet from the lot line.
A detached swimming pool must be ten (10) feet from the house and three (3) feet
from the lot line.
A swimming pool may not be over or under any power lines.


What are the rules and regulations for placing a swimming pool on my property?

A pool dome or top fencing attached to the pool must extend at least forty-four (44) inches above the ground.
A pool cover must be capable of supporting one hundred (100) pounds per square foot of area. The cover must be secured at all times when the pool is not being supervised by a responsible adult.
Stairs, ladders or other accesses, shall be secured, removed or blocked to prevent access when the pool is not in use.
Above ground pools with walls at least forty-four (44) inches at all points around the pool or that have platforms and railings that are forty-four (44) inches or more in height above ground are not required to be enclosed.


Is a building permit required to re-shingle my home?

No, a permit is not required unless you are increasing the structural load (i.e. using clay shingles).

 

Is a permit required to reside my house?

Yes, a building permit is required.

 

Is a permit required for a fence?

No, a building permit is not required.  A shoreland zoning permit maybe required by Outagamie County if within three hundred (300)feet of a navigable stream.

 

What are the rules and regulations for erecting a fence on my property?

If a fence is placed within twenty-five (25) feet of the street right-of-way it shall not be more than forty-two (42) inches in height.
Barbed wire, electrical and single, double and triple strand fences are prohibited in residential district unless used in a protective fence.
A fence cannot be placed where it will obstruct the vision of any traffic sign or driveway approach to street or intersections and not in any easements.

Yes, a permit is required at a cost of $25.

 

What are the rules and regulations for erecting a deck on my property?

A building permit must be obtained and a site plan submitted.  A deck is permitted within ten (10) feet of a principal building and six (6) feet from any lot line.

 

Is a permit required for a shed?

Yes, a permit is required at a cost of $25.  A site plan mu;st be submitted at the time of permitting.

What is a junked vehicle?

An unregistered vehicles stored in the open in excess of 30 days or any old, stripped and/or wrecked vehicle not in good and safe operating condition.

 

Can I sell a vehicle(s) on my property?

No, not in a Residential District on a recurring basis or any other District without a special exception permit.
