Information for a Crime Victim
- Your case is one of many received and is important to us. It will receive as much attention as possible. You will not be automatically re-contacted unless we need more information or solve the case.

Your Investigation Includes:
- All serial numbered items will be entered into a computer system nationwide (NCIC).
- Pawn records are checked against stolen property we are aware of.
- Similar cases are coordinated with other agencies when appropriate.
- Crime Analysis will check your report in an effort to make correlation's for possible suspects, trends, and crime patterns that could lead to an arrest(s).
- Arrests of criminals made by our department will be checked to see if they could be responsible for the offense you have reported. Their fingerprints will be checked where applicable.
- Property held by our department will be checked in an effort to return it to the legal owner.
You Have the Responsibility To:
- Make every effort to obtain serial numbers of articles stolen.
- Keep our department advised of any information you may become aware of that will be of assistance to our investigation.
- Make sure you have given the officers taking your report, accurate information to the best of your ability.
- If the return of your property or prosecution of the offender(s) is important to you, you must keep our department advised of any new information you might discover. We cannot return your property or prosecute an offender(s) without you!
Other Points to Consider:
- Take measures to make your self, your dwelling, and your business more secure against future attacks from intruders. Consider marking your valuable items with your driver's license number.
Record serial numbers of items and keep them in a safe place.
- Place valuable items in a safe deposit box for better security.
- Keep in mind that your police department will make every effort to locate your property and/or arrest the offender, but officers must rely on you to supply the most accurate and updated information available.

Operation Identification
- The Grand Chute Police Department vigorously supports Operation Identification. We urge you to take advantage of this program and etch your driver's license number on valuables. The problem of ownership identity of stolen property is widespread. Unidentifiable property is continually being recovered by law enforcement agencies throughout the state. Without identifiable markings, most of these valuables cannot be returned to the victim/owner.
- Remember that Operation Identification can help you get your stolen property back. Take advantage of this program by contacting the Crime Prevention Unit of the Grand Chute Police Department at (920) 832-1575.

Home or Business Security
Expert security advice is available at no cost; just call and make an appointment with our crime prevention unit. We will conduct a home or business security survey and advise you on ways or make your person/property less vulnerable to crime. No method is foolproof, but there are techniques you can use that are extremely effective in deterring the criminal. You are in no way obligated to buy expensive devices. There are many things you can do that will cost you nothing. Remember, our interests are your interests, and though mutual aid we can defeat the intruder.

What Can You Do If You Are The Victim of a Crime?
To meet the needs of victims and witnesses of crimes, the Prosecuting Attorney with the cooperation of law enforcement agencies initiated the program in an attempt to balance the scales of justice.
If you are the victim of a crime in Town of Grand Chute, we will answer any questions you my have. We also keep the victims involved in active court cases keeping the victims involved in active court cases. If there is a need for social services, we will refer you to an existing agency that may be able to help you.

How Do We Help You?
- Each officer seeks to aid the victims of crimes in the Town of Grand Chute with particular emphasis on cases before the courts. The department notifies the involved people and keeps them advised of their case status.
- Claims for Restitution are also gathered where appropriate. Assistance is also provided for filing claims with the State when benefits apply.

Wisconsin State Crime Victims Compensation Act
- Wisconsin law allows for the aid of an innocent crime victim suffering bodily injury to obtain medical and work loss benefits. The Department of Labor and Industries will determine eligibility based on established criteria.

If You Are The Victim of Domestic Violence
- If you are the victim of domestic violence, you can ask the County Prosecuting Attorney to file a criminal complaint. You also have the right to file a petition in Superior, District, or Municipal court requesting an order for protection from domestic abuse which could include any of the following:
An order restraining your abuser from further acts of abuse
An order directing your abuser to leave your household
An order preventing your abuser from entering your residence, school, business, or place of employment
An order awarding you or the other parent custody of or visitation with your minor child or children
An order restraining your abuser from molesting or interfering with minor children in your custody. The forms you need to obtain a protection order are available in any Municipal, District, or Superior Court.
