The Grand Chute Fire Department partners with Fox Valley Technical College as a member of the Fox Valley Regional Hiring Process for the establishment of our full-time firefighter eligibility list. This entry-level assessment process utilizes the FireTEAM Test, and the Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) to assess prospective firefighters. The eligibility list is updated on an annual basis. The minimum requirements for our full-time firefighter positions include the following criteria:- At least 18 years of age.
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin State driver’s license or other valid driver’s license recognized by the State of Wisconsin.
- No convictions for any felony or serious misdemeanor.
- Possession of a high school diploma from a state accredited high school or shall have passed the GED test.
- Possession of a two-year associates degree from an accredited vocational, technical or adult education institute. Two years of full-time professional firefighting experience, or six years of part-time or paid-on-call experience with the Grand Chute Fire Department may be considered in lieu of the associates degree requirement. All newly appointed firefighters must make reasonable progress toward, and complete the requirements for an associates degree in fire protection within four years of their employment.
- Certification as a Firefighter II including certification of Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations training. The State of Wisconsin must recognize the certifications.
- Certification as a Nationally Registered EMT-Basic is required. Certifications must be recognized by the State of Wisconsin.
- Certification as a Driver / Operator-Pumper is desirable.
Part-time firefighters are recruited and trained on an annual basis through an internal application process. The minimum requirements for our part-time firefighter positions include the following criteria:- At least 18 years of age.
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin State driver’s license.
- No convictions for any felony or serious misdemeanor.
- While previous training and experience is not required, certification as a State of Wisconsin Firefighter I and EMT is preferred (will need to obtain).
