Nov. 27, 2022 - FATAL DUPLEX FIRE

Sunday, November 27, 2022, at approximately 7:50 pm, the Grand Chute Fire Department (GCFD) was dispatched to the 600 block of South Olson Avenue for a report of black smoke and fire inside the home. The Appleton and Fox Crossing Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene at the same time in keeping with automatic aid agreements.
The first crew arrived quickly after dispatch to find heavy smoke and fire showing inside one side of a single-story duplex. After a quick knock-down of the fire, a deceased 55-year-old male and a deceased dog were found in the house. The victim's name is not available at this time. Three adults are displaced from the duplex and being assisted by the Red Cross. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation by Grand Chute Fire Department, Grand Chute Police Department, and Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, which is standard practice after a fatality. No cause has been identified at the time of this release.
The Grand Chute Fire Department wants to remind everyone that fires move fast in today’s homes. It is very important to have working smoke alarms and an escape plan that is practiced.
